Moving From the City to the Country

Our little family consisting of dad, mom and four kids began desiring to move out to the country. After looking at properties for over 2 years, praying, and beginning to conclude we were probably meant to stay in the city, an opportunity arose. We found a property listed with two "fixer uppers" on ten acres. Trying to find it was a bit of a challenge. After traveling and turning around for a few miles on dirt roads, we ended up finding it. I was speachless. The homes were so ugly I didn't even want to go inside them. I was afraid for my kids - who knows what kind of critters and insects lived in there. The homes were clearly abandoned and to say they were poorly built was an understatement. I was taking it all in as the kids began running around and my husband, Gary, turned into Inspector Cluso - off on some clue finding adventure. When he returned he stated, "this is perfect!" Not being as visionary as he is, I stayed silent.

We moved out in July, 2005 into a 24' trailer while we fixed up the guest house. We rented out our home in the city with the thought we could move back if we didn't like the country. After a few short months living on the property, we knew we would not even consider moving back to the city. When we travel into the city, we feel sorry for people having to live in such small quarters and keeping themselves busy with jobs and activities. Life is so different living in the country. It's a peaceful freedom where daily stresses evaporate in the trees and sunshine or in watching a goat bounce happily to its next food source.
