Homemade Yogurt Recipe

Yogurt Making Process

You don't need a yogurt maker to make yogurt, just a small electrical appliance that can hold the temperature consistent for making yogurt. We use one similar to a crock-pot.

Before making yogurt, it is important to have a setting on the temperature dial that measures a steady 100 degrees. Put water in the pot and place a candy thermometer inside with the lid on. Start near the warm setting. Check the temperature every so often and adjust until it until it keeps a steady 100 degrees.

Recipe
Yogurt is simple. Only two ingredients:

-1/2 to 1 gallon of milk.
-2 tbsp. of plain yogurt or yogurt starter.

Directions

Add milk first, then yogurt. Stir and wait 24 hours.

Don’t let it set too long. We use a 24 hour set time. Mold can form if the set time is too long.

Homemade yogurt is thinner because there are no additives. Place it in the fridge after it has completed the 24 hour set time.

My personal favorite way to use plain yogurt is in an orange smoothie. The delicious texture of the cold ingredients on a hot day is absolutely scrumptious.
