“Try” P!nk cover by Nicole Cross

My take on it
Nicole Cross has an amazing voice! Her remake of “Try” by P!nk demonstrates a vast range of her talent. She sings with a unique character and resonance in her rich but clear tones. She is spot on with intonation and timing. Nicole totally knocks it out of the park!

Nicole’s acoustic guitarist rhythm pattern is truly interesting to my ears. At times, it feels rather halted and choppy. Maybe this occurs because he is performing finger tapping and pull-offs, but has to play rhythm and leads at the same time. I love the muted cords during the verses. Mostly, he is in the groove. Oh Ya, nice backups.

What I find quite surprising, this version is simply a voice and guitar. Yet Nicole performs a powerful but not overbearing vocal delivery. Some vocalists feel the need to push the vocals because they do not hear or feel a full band behind them. The voice then overrides the guitar and leaves you feeling like the song needs more instruments to support the vocalist. However, this is not the case for this cover. I think more instruments would complement her most definitely, but this version still leaves me breathless at times.

I will be waiting impatiently for the next Nicole Cross cover. :)
