2012 Christmas EP
Learning Fun
We had so much fun putting this Christmas EP together and what a learning experience! I mean, I’ve worked with ProTools before but this was different. I wanted every track to be as perfect as possible. But every album or EP in this case, needs to begin somewhere.
Songs?
Shae and I started remaking several traditional Christmas songs in hopes of bringing them a fresh new Little Homestead feel. Unfortunately, we had way too many so we had to cut back on quite a few. I guess we got a little carried away. But, in the end, we had three we were happy with, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (a beachy style), Away In The Manger, and Gloria. However, we were missing something very important, an original!
Wise Venture
I always thought it rather strange that the three wise men figured out the King would be born and they needed to follow a bright star in the sky. It was quite a comical scene in my head and don’t get me started on the shepherds. A sky full of angles would be enough Holy for a lifetime. And so, “Baby, Oh Baby” was born.
Came Together
It took about a month and a half to get from ideas to iTunes. Boy, was it a ride! I’ve never been part of such a big project before with so many moving pieces. I had Dads help and anyone who would lend an ear and give a suggestion. All the band members did a bang up job, not only playing, but staying calm. They would come into the studio and ask what I wanted. I would reply, “Um, I don’t know, I was just thinking beachy?” or “I don’t know Dude, you play that thing better then me.”
We took all the parts and pieces, threw them together and came up with our very first Christmas EP!
