America Is A Republic
I Don’t know about you but I’m one of those people that can’t stand it when folks refer to America as a “democracy”. It’s one of those things I don’t understand. This is one of life’s biggest mystery’s to me. I mean, what are we learning in schools these days? In my opinion a republic is very different from a democracy in every aspect. Even though both systems attempt to get the same job done by passing or blocking laws, the way it’s done is entirely different.
Democracy sounds great! But it has a fatal flaw that renders it dangerous. It does not really represent the people. The founders knew that the populous could make great decisions, but humans have a tendency to get carried away in a crowd. To make sure laws are passed, well thought through and the effects carefully weighed, they went with a Republic form of government. Even though representatives could still take bribes and be talked into dumb things, they were held accountable for their actions by the people and their fellow peers in office. Our founders believed strongly that the people had the right to govern themselves. In fact, they believed it so much they decided to go to war over it with England. This was also another reason they went with the republic system. The people decided who went in, and who was taken out with a great thing called voting.
What I am most confused about is why folks on news networks make this mistake. These are the people that should know more about our country than the average Joe. They’re the people with the opinions, no? Are these the people that talk to us everyday about our country and the latest happenings in it? Or what about those uninformed kids protesting for one reason or another and you ask them to clarify and they use the word democracy in a sentence as if it means something, what is up with that? Our education system should fully teach about a republic form of government with history and facts about America.
I thought I’d set the record straight here with this video. So just to clarify, America is a republic not a democracy. Enjoy!
